The assembly of artificial nanostructured and microstructured materials which display structures and functionalities that mimic nature's complexity requires building blocks with specific and directional interactions, analogous to those displayed at the molecular level. Despite remarkable progress in synthesizing "patchy" particles encoding anisotropic interactions, most current methods are rest...

Ultrasonic and dielectrophoretic particle manipulation have been studied for particle trajectory modification and particle trapping in microfluidic channels. We report an approach that combines dielectrophoresis (DEP) and ultrasonic fields to trap and concentrate particles and cells in an aqueous suspension. By simultaneously applying electric and ultrasonic fields to the sample, the favorable ...

Engineered two-phase microfluidic systems have recently shown promise for computation, encryption, and biological processing. For many of these systems, complex control of dispersed-phase frequency and switching is enabled by nonlinearities associated with interfacial stresses. Introducing nonlinearity associated with fluid inertia has recently been identified as an easy to implement strategy t...
متن کاملIndependent Study: Microfluidic Channel for Acoustic Particle Manipulation
To study acoustic microfluidic particle manipulation, a microfluidic channel was designed in AutoCAD and fabricated in a silicon wafer using potassium hydroxide etching and other cleanroom techniques. The first channel created was destructively tested and its fabrication techniques characterized; future channel development is outlined.
